We recognize that transitions can be difficult for a child with SEND and take steps to ensure that any transition is as smooth as possible.

How we will support children with SEND when they are moving on to another class or leaving this school:

Transition is the transfer from one Key Stage to another (e.g. Foundation Stage to Key Stage 1) or to a new school. At St. Wilfrid’s we recognise that transition can be a difficult time for pupils with SEND. We work closely with feeder school and class teachers to ensure children are comfortable and confident about the move they are about to make.

Staff work closely together when children move to a new class so that vital information is shared to ensure children have a smooth transition.  This could be discussing specific needs or strategies that enable the child to feel comfortable and be able to learn to the best of their ability.

We organise an enhanced level of transition for children who need it, which may include extra visits to meet staff and become familiar with the new surroundings, photo journals and peer support.

Parents are consulted at every stage of this transition. They also are given opportunities to meet with new staff and discuss any worries they may have.

If you would like to discuss your SEND requirements in detail please contact the school to arrange an appointment.
