Welcome to Year 5!
Find out what has been happening in Year 5 by visiting our Class News page.
Welcome to Year 5 and the beginning of upper Key Stage Two. English and Maths are taught every morning in our class along with spelling and grammar activities. Children read every afternoon after lunch and foundation subjects are then taught.
We have P.E. on Thursday afternoons. Your child should come to school in their PE kit on these days.
Every class has its own system of rewards. Children have lots of opportunities in Year 5 such as residential trips, bike ability lessons and the chance to become buddies to Reception children at the end of the year. We hope that you have fun and make the most of Year 5!

Homework in Year 5
In Year 5 during the first half term we have traditional homework which is given on Monday and should be returned by the next Monday. Work which receives a sticker is very good. If children find any aspect of their homework difficult we ask on Thursday if anyone needs help. Please check your child’s homework for spelling errors and general good presentation. If a word is misspelt the children should draw a line through it and write it again. In the second half of the Autumn term we have Learning Logs ,like in Year 3 and Year 4. The children are encouraged to choose activities which are of interest to them. One of the maths choices is compulsory and is glued into their books. During the following two terms the children have a combination of Traditional homework and Learning Logs. Certificates are awarded for every completed Learning Log.
P.E. in Year 5
In Autumn term we have PE on a Thursday, come to school in your PE kit.
ClassDojo
ClassDojo is a communication app for the classroom, each child has their own character that collects their points for them. At St. Wilfrid’s we use ClassDojo to reward children for good behaviour, following school rules, fantastic work or being a good role model to others. At the end of each week/half term the child with the most Dojo’s wins a prize.
We also use ClassDojo to keep parents informed about what we have been doing, sending class messages to all parents about the work we have been doing in class and then also sending private messages to parents celebrating their own child’s achievements.
